Garnet Health Welcomes New Trauma Surgeon 

MIDDLETOWN, NY (Oct. 22, 2026) — Garnet Health Doctors is pleased to welcome trauma surgeon Gerard A. Baltazar, DO, FACOS, FACS, FCCM, OMT, to its growing team of physicians. 

Dr. Baltazar is a board-certified general surgeon and surgical critical-care specialist with extensive experience in trauma surgery, acute-care surgery and critical care. Most recently, he served as an attending surgeon and associate professor in the Department of Surgery at NYU Langone Hospital–Long Island and the NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine. During his tenure, he held numerous leadership positions, including medical director of the NYU Comprehensive Transfer Center and founder of the Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment for Trauma Program.

Throughout his career, Dr. Baltazar has demonstrated a strong commitment to clinical excellence, medical education, research and innovation in trauma care. He has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed articles in leading surgical and trauma journals and has held leadership roles with several professional organizations. He currently serves as president of the New York State Osteopathic Medical Society.

Dr. Baltazar earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his general surgery residency at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center and his surgical critical-care fellowship at University Hospital in Newark, New Jersey. 

He is also an Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course director and an instructor for multiple American College of Surgeons trauma education programs. 

In his new role, Dr. Baltazar will provide inpatient trauma surgery coverage at Garnet Health Medical Center.
